An act of kindness in Bermuda
Inspired by GlobalGiving.co.uk’s Act of Kindness competition, I remembered a story from Bermuda….

Bermuda
* * *
As I teenager I was invited on a friend’s family trip to Bermuda. Oh, what freedom our mopeds afforded! That is, until we foolishly ran out of petrol. Seeking assistance, we rolled into the nearest driveway. As we walked our bikes down the long, tree-lined path, a car approached. The driver, a police constable freshly off duty, wondered what we were doing on the Prime Minister’s estate. Oops.
Without hesitating, he invited us to come with him to get petrol, but first he had to go home to speak to his wife – this was before mobile phones. You see, it was Christmas Day, and only one petrol station on the entire island was open.
His wife was audibly unhappy, but he came out the front door smiling, telling us not to worry. He drove us to the far end of the island, paid for our petrol, drove us back to the bikes, filled the tanks and made sure we were ok.
With an enthusiastic “Merry Christmas and Thank You!”, we bid our guardian angel good bye.
I sure hope Santa was good to him.
